Darnold is the youngest arm in this class and it cuts both ways. Only 27 games at USC, 64.9% completion, 7,229 yards (267.7 per game), 57 touchdowns to 22 interceptions. His freshman year was the better tape: 67.2% completion with 31 touchdowns and 9 picks while averaging 237.4 yards per game, impressive numbers for a true freshman running the show in the Pac-12. The sophomore season raised flags. Completion rate dropped to 63.1%, interceptions jumped to 13, and the per-game yardage spiked to 295.9 partly because USC was playing from behind more often. The 2.6:1 TD/INT ratio is fine but not elite. 332 rushing yards and 7 rushing touchdowns across two years, enough to move in the pocket without being a designed runner. At 221 pounds with a 4.85 forty and 26.5-inch vertical, the physical profile is adequate, not special. What sells is the improvisation, the arm angles, the willingness to make every throw. What scares is the decision-making that got worse, not better, with experience. R1.3 for the highest developmental ceiling in this draft, with the understanding that turnovers aren't growing pains if they don't get corrected.
